Sealed Air’s Diversey™ hygiene solutions brand announces the launch of Dicolube Sustain™, a track treatment system for the brewing and beverage industry that offers the advantages of effective production line hygiene and lubrication while reducing operational water usage by at least 60 percent in brewing operations.
Developed for the conveyance of food and beverage containers in brewing and beverage industry packaging hall operations, the semi-dry lubrication and hygiene program is primarily targeted for use on stainless steel conveyors transporting glass bottles but can also be used for cans and mixed packaging lines (PET bottles). The system is ideal for bottlers and brewers looking for sustainable choices to conserve resources, enhance energy efficiency, reduce total operating costs and improve workplace safety. Dicolube Sustain features effective lubrication properties that reduce friction and thus help reduce energy used to move products along the conveyor. Based on comparison to standard systems utilizing point-of-use water diluted lubricants, the system has the potential to deliver as much as 80 percent reduction in water usage in brewing and beverage manufacturing settings – representing significant conservation benefits for one of the world’s most critical resources. Reducing water and energy usage also lowers input costs for manufacturers. In addition, drier floors and conveyor systems resulting from program implementation contribute to improved workplace safety.
In addition to proprietary semi-dry lubricant and conveyor hygiene chemicals, the Dicolube Sustain system features service components including production line assessments, equipment recommendations or modifications (if necessary), implementation support and ongoing customer relationship management.
"Dicolube Sustain is a system that provides a great example of our focus on developing solutions based on knowledge, expertise and understanding of the industries in which our food and beverage customers operate," said Alex Ricarte, Executive Director, Sector Food & Beverage, North America, Sealed Air. "Brewing and beverage producers identify water usage, effective hygiene, production line safety and controlling costs among their key concerns. In trials with well-known brewing operations, this system has a positive impact in each of these areas."
The system is highly adaptable to current operations. In many cases, existing dosing, control and distribution components may be used with Dicolube Sustain, limiting the investment required for manufacturers to adopt the program. "This system perfectly aligns with the Sealed Air SmartLife™ sustainability initiative that challenges our business and employees to develop inventive solutions that enhance our customers’ operations while demonstrating tangible benefits for the environment," said Ron Cotterman, Vice President, Sustainability, Sealed Air Corp. "Water is one of our most important resources, and it is our responsibility to help our customers conserve as much as possible wherever we can, especially when you consider the shortages faced in many parts of the world today."

Global players disagree on the answers to the most current Food Safety and Labour Safety challenges while poll shows that nearly 1 in 5 food safety businesses did not treat infection control as a business risk
More than 200 senior business leaders from world renown, blue-chip organisations in the building care, retail, lodging, and food & beverage industries attended the recent Risk Management Summit arranged by Diversey, now a part of Sealed Air. The Summit was held at the Amsterdam RAI Conference Centre on 10 May 2012.
In an age when the chance of acquiring a hospital acquired infection (HAI) in developed countries is 30% and considerably higher in the Third World; when 0.1% of all salmonella cases result in death; and the threat posed by pandemics is more global than at any other point in human history, all participants welcomed Diversey’s timely initiative in convening the Summit. The attendees, who were drawn from 18 different countries, heard world class presentations from global leaders such as ISS, Metro, Coca Cola, Compass Group, AutoGrill and McDonalds. Lively and fiercely debated panel sessions added different and often conflicting viewpoints on a diverse and topical range of food safety and labour safety challenges in the workplace.
While welcoming the increased attention that the Summit and other initiatives were putting on Risk Management, speakers at the event had markedly different views on what the key issues in food safety and labour safety were and how these challenges should be tackled. The results of live polling of delegates at key moments during the Summit, confirmed the divergence of opinion on the major threats and the optimum strategies to mitigate or eliminate these risks.
Specifically with regard to food safety, when asked what is the single biggest challenge for the food distribution chain, three different answers dominated. A majority of 55.8% named the complexity of differing regulations across borders, a vocal 13% were strongly critical of the sheer cost of implementing food safety measures while for 31.2% the crux of the matter was the practicalities of ensuring collaboration between all parties in the food chain from farm to fork.
When polled on what was the biggest opportunity for food safety compliance, attendees recognised technology as the greatest enabler (40%) while common regulations and common sourcing were also popular choices as the single most important factor for 34.3% and 25.7% of attendees respectively. Staggeringly, some 18.7% of attendees admitted they did not consider, and therefore were not focussing on infection control as a food safety risk or a threat to their businesses.
Consensus was also difficult to find between speakers and in attendees opinions when it came to matters concerning the Summit’s second main strand -Labour Safety and The Virtuous Circle of Efficiency and Safety.
Surprisingly when asked what the biggest challenge they faced on labour safety was only 33% of attendees said reducing injuries was the biggest challenge – trailing behind 52.2% voting for increased employee engagement as their biggest challenge. Perhaps more positively, 52.7% saw improving the consistency of customer service as the prime result of improved labour safety, ahead of the other popular answers of optimising operational productivity and reducing employee downtime.

Sealed Air’s (NYSE: SEE) Diversey business today launched the Diverflow with Sure Link™ dilution control system, a wall-mounted chemical dispensing system that provides foodservice organizations with a safe and easy way to clean multiple kitchen areas while reducing environmental impact.
&"The Diverflow with Sure Link system reduces hazards and errors by ensuring that employees avoid contact with chemicals and that concentrated solutions are not mistakenly mixed or improperly used,” said Isaac Peterson, Americas Portfolio Lead Kitchen Safety and Hygiene, Diversey. &"With the push of a button, the desired type of solution is safely delivered to achieve consistent and accurate results every time.”
The system includes six easy-to-load pouches of concentrated formulas for glass, restrooms, floor care, multipurpose, manual ware wash and sanitizing needs. Color-coded cap and bottle lock-out features ensure that employees use the correct product for each application while reducing exposure to concentrated solutions. The wall-mounted design also reduces trip-and-fall hazards by removing chemical containers from the floor.
The Diverflow with Sure Link system is designed for simple employee training with straightforward color-coded equipment and a push-to-dispense design. Consistent dilution and dispensing capabilities also ensure workers are cleaning with the correct strength solutions to eliminate overuse and waste.
&"Ease of use and increased employee safety are just two of the benefits of the Diverflow system,” Peterson added. &"Foodservice operations also have the ability to reduce their environmental footprint.”
The vacuum action of the Diverflow system allows customers to see the pouches collapsing until they are completely empty so virtually no residual chemical remains. This enables kitchen workers to maximize solution use while eliminating unsafe spills and exposure to chemicals. Reduced plastic and cardboard packaging also lessens waste and promotes recycling.
